Our mission is to produce quality television and live online broadcasts featuring established and upcoming comic book artists, cartoonists, graffiti artists, pop artists, illustrators, entertainment/gaming artists, animators and musicians that create music for those industries. We will provide a platform for those that create the art and music that provide a means of escape from daily grime. We will provide a social network supported by sponsors and partners for those that wish to immerse themselves in the culture. Our audience will have the opportunity to learn from artists and musicians of the industry and watch them demonstrate their techniques. It is our goal that they will gain knowledge and appreciation of how things work, the history of escapism and its importance in current times. Commercial art and music for industry educators will also be encouraged to participate.

Eight Organizations Receive Funding for Programs Benefiting American Youth

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Eight nonprofit organizations today were awarded grants from the ESA Foundation to advance programs leveraging video games and technology to make a difference in the lives of America’s youth. The grantees’ programs range from offering hands-on game design workshops for girls to using video games for vision screenings in schools. The ESA Foundation is the charitable and philanthropic organization begun by the U.S. video game industry.
“Video games can improve lives and expand horizons exponentially. These grantees are harnessing interactive technologies to create innovative solutions to everyday challenges,” said Jenny Lai, vice president of ESA Foundation. “Their programs are closely aligned with the ESA Foundation’s mission to create positive social impact through video games and digital technology, and we are proud to support their efforts.”
These grants will allow the organizations to advance their projects through 2015 and beyond.
2015 ESA Foundation Grantees:
• Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA)
Through project-based learning, BGCA will promote a nationwide science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) initiative to encourage kids and young adults to apply STEM concepts to real-life experiences and improve their local communities.
• Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals
Since its inception in 2008, Extra Life, a 24-hour video game marathon and fundraiser, has raised more than $14 million for CMN Hospitals across the country. The ESA Foundation sponsored the top prizes of $30,000 to the two CMN hospitals whose Extra Life 2014 participants raise the most funds overall and per capita.
• Drexel University
As a leader in collegiate game design programs, Drexel University will offer game development workshops for girls in the Philadelphia region in partnership with TechGirlz, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing the gender gap in technology occupations. The workshops will give girls a hands-on experience with different technologies and encourage them to pursue degrees and occupations in technology-related industries.
• HopeLab Foundation
HopeLab works to harness the power of technology to improve human health and well-being. Its newest project, Zamzee, encourages physical activity among children and their families. HopeLab will test Zamzee with clinical partners to explore using games as a tool to combat sedentary behavior and prevent the onset of chronic diseases.
• National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC)
NCMEC will support the development of NetSmartz Kids Club UYN, an online monthly feature that promotes Internet safety with animated media, interactive activities and more.
• National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI)
NMAI, a component of the Smithsonian Institution, will develop The Great Inka Road: Engineering an Empire, an in-gallery game play experience that will explore the importance of the Inka Road and how the indigenous peoples of the Western Hemisphere changed the course of world history.
• ThanksUSA
As a way to thank the men and women of the U.S. armed services, ThanksUSA provides meaningful educational scholarships for military family members. The ESA Foundation will continue to support ThanksUSA’s Treasure Hunt, an interactive American history game that reinforces the privilege and values of American freedom.
• VisionQuest 20/20
VisionQuest 20/20 aims to protect children and their families from the devastating consequences of undetected vision disorders and preventable blindness. Thirty-five schools across the U.S. will receive EyeSpy 20/20, a vision assessment game, along with supplies and technical support to conduct unlimited screenings.

Gen Con Indy 2013 Continues

INDIANAPOLIS – Gen Con Indy 2013, completed August 15-18 at the Indiana Convention Center, experienced record attendance numbers and unprecedented growth. Weekend turnstile attendance of 159,364 and unique attendance of 49,058, grew the convention 20% from 2012’s record-setting 41,000+ unique attendees. These metrics show continued growth of more than 75% over the past five years.
 
“The Gen Con team is ecstatic about the attendance numbers for Gen Con Indy 2013, but there are also many other successes from this year’s show to share,” said Adrian Swartout, CEO of Gen Con LLC. “More than 12,000 gaming and entertainment events occurred at the convention, 360+ companies exhibited, the annual Trade Day doubled in attendance, and Sunday enjoyed record-breaking Family Fun Day attendance. It is hard to believe Gen Con Indy could experience a better year than 2012, but our exhibitors, sponsors, and event organizers guaranteed this was absolutely our best show.”

The first Guinness World Record attempt at a Gen Con Indy was completed successfully by Mayfair Games on Saturday, August 17, when they achieved the world’s largest game of Catan with 922 players. Wizards of the Coast hosted a sold out Night with D&D event, featuring a murder mystery puzzle game. Paizo Publishing’s Pathfinder Special Event filled the Sagamore Ballroom, with actions of one player impacting the games of hundreds of others. Collectively, these three events had more than 2,500 ticketed participants.

zombiecardCHICAGO, IL – Riding the wave of  zombie popularity, a Chicago-based game maker has released the details of their newest game ‘Zombie Shuffle.

Created by enthusiasts of the genre ‘Zombie Shuffle’ uses the standard deck by turning the king, queen and jack cards into zombies, the aces into survivors and the 2 through 10 as their weapons to take them on.

“We spent over a year on the rules and design,” said Blaise Sewell, game co-creator and designer. “Zombie Shuffle is a lot like current favorites Munchkin and Bang! but also combines elements from classics including Crazy 8s and Spades.”

With the flood of zombie-related products Sewell believes his team has connected the new with the old by forcing themselves to stick to the standard deck.

“By releasing the rules online Zombie Shuffle is free to everyone with a deck of cards,” he said. “We love how games are passed down through family gatherings and parties and  hope our little game will be the same.”

As the Kickstarter winds down they have 12 days to raise funds to cover the large costs of printing decks of cards. Kickstarter is an online  pledge system for funding creative projects and is used to generate money for start up costs through crowdsourcing.

The group plans to continue releasing more games if their inaugural card game is successful.
